Georgia Tech Representatives Participate in STEM Roundtable at the White House

Georgia Tech student Vivian Stepp and faculty member Julie Champion will spend Friday, December 9, at the White House as part of the Obama Administration’s “Champions of Change” roundtable event.  Stepp and Champion were invited to join students and faculty from around the nation to discuss ways of changing the stereotypes of girls in science and technology. They will also brainstorm how to support and retain women in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

College of Computing Hires Fortnow, Anton to Lead Schools

Following a year-long national search, Georgia Tech’s College of Computing has hired renowned computing leaders Lance Fortnow and Annie Antón to chair its schools of Computer Science and Interactive Computing, respectively, effective July 1.

Dean Zvi Galil Awarded Waterloo Honorary Degree

Zvi Galil, John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech, was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Waterloo at the mathematics portion of its 104th Convocation ceremony, held Friday, June 15, in Waterloo, Ontario.

Galil, who has served as dean of the College of Computing since July 2010, was awarded the Waterloo honorary degree in mathematics, along with John Dennis Jr., a longtime professor in computational and applied mathematics at Rice University.

Lee, Edwards Named Directors of College Research Centers

Professors Wenke Lee and Keith Edwards have been named directors of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC) and the GVU Center, respectively, College of Computing Dean Zvi Galil announced Aug. 1.

Craig Mundie is a two-time alumnus of Georgia Tech, earning his bachelor's in electrical engineering in 1971, followed by a master's in information and computer science in 1972.

Craig Mundie, EE '71, M.S. ICS '72, and chief research and strategy officer of Microsoft Corporation, will discuss how we can harness new technologies to take on some of the world’s most complex challenges.

We are starting to see a fundamental transformation in how we interact with computers and what we can expect from them. Powered by insights from big data, more natural user interfaces, and a merging of the physical and digital worlds, this new era of computing will enable exciting new capabilities.
